On June 19th, we celebrate the 159th Anniversary of the end of slavery in 1865 in the United States, which is known today as Juneteenth. It is a combination of the month of  'June' and the 'nineteenth' day that commemorates the happy news of newly-freed slaves in Texas at the end of the Civil War.

The Union City School District would like to wish everyone in the community a Happy Easter. May you all enjoy this beautiful holiday with family and friends.

A special day that is celebrated globally on March 8th known as International Women's Day has evolved into a month-long celebration of Women's History. This month, we pause and think about not just how far women overall have come in the fight for equality, but also about the struggles and triumphs of the women in our lives: our mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, colleagues and friends.

Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. Since 1976, every U.S. President has officially designated the month of February as Black History Month. Other countries around the world, including Canada and the United Kingdom, also devote a month to celebrating Black history.

We have been continuing to integrate Jersey Fresh fruits and vegetables into the schools in creative ways while increasing student interest in trying new foods.
